THE FLY BOYS SERIES
The Fly Boys series spanned three books, three years and two publishers and is much more farcical than the Tobin series. Lots of puns and the regulation Morgan quota of beautiful girls, the series extends the interest in Air Hostesses that seems to be ever-present in the Tobin books. The dodgy cover to Skyjacked in 1976 (unauthorised by Stan it must be pointed out) resulted in it being banned by the new Arab owners of the Dorchester Hotel. The film director, Bryan Forbes, for whom Stan had worked on 'The L-Shaped Room' and 'Seance On A Wet Afternoon', owned the bookstall concession in the lobby of the hotel, and, loyally supporting a fellow author, purchased copies and displayed them. They had hardly come to rest when the management ordered them 'gone or else'. Stanley Morgan therefore has the dubious distinction of being the only author ever to be banned from the Dorchester Hotel bookstall.
